Rev. Thomas R. Dunphy

November 24, 1930 - March 11, 2017

Rev. Thomas R. Dunphy, 86, Pastor of St. Martin of Tours, Valley City, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

He was born on November 24, 1930, in Akron to the late William M. and Margaret Helen (nee Hogue) Dunphy.

Father Dunphy’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Raphael, Bay Village. In Feb. 1964, he was transferred to the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland to serve as Parochial Vicar in addition July 1964, he was appointed Chaplain of Dyke College Newman Club. Father Dunphy was appointed Chaplain of Akron University Newman Club, Akron in June 1965. On June 27, 1979, he was assigned resident Chaplain of St. Edward Nursing Home, Akron and Spiritual Director of the Bread of Life Community, Akron. Father Dunphy was assigned Parachial Vicar of St. Martin of Tours, Valley City on June 28, 1984. On August 5, 1986, he was appointed Administrator pro tem of St. Martin of Tours. On October 31, 1986, Father was named Pastor of St. Martin of Tours, Valley City.

Father will be greatly missed. His friendly smile, his love to break out into song (usually something Irish), his generous heart and desire to be of service to all those in need truly reflected his love of the Lord.

Father Dunphy was one of nine children- Margaret M. (David) Saltz, (deceased), Patricia R. (Henry) Fuller, (deceased), William M. Jr. (deceased), wife Martha, James J. (late Betty), Jerome R. (deceased) (wife Marty), Elaine W. (Bill) Osborne, Terence B. and Marianne (Paul-deceased) Henterly. Many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial- 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. Martin of Tours, 1800 Station Road Valley City. Vesper Service will be held 3:00 PM Weds. March 15, 2017 and visitation following till 8:00 PM at the church.

Burial: St. Martin Church Cemetery,Valley City.

In lieu of flowers- The family suggests memorials be made to St. Martin of Tours in memory of Father Dunphy.

The Bauer Funeral Home, Valley City has the honor of serving the Dunphy family.
