William D. "Bill" Schwinn

William D. “Bill” Schwinn, age 96, of Valley City, Ohio passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at The Laurels of New London, surrounded by family. Bill was born in Montgomery, Alabama on December 20, 1922, son of Murrow D. and Tessie Lois (Hatcher) Schwinn, and was raised in Cambellton, Florida until he was seventeen, then moved to Elyria Ohio. He married Rose Ellen Dowdell on August 23, 1947. In 1949, they moved to Valley City and started a dairy farm. The cows were sold in 1968 and Bill began his second career as a realtor. Rose died in 1983. On June 6, 1986, he married Kathleen Walker Dommin, who died in 2012. Bill worked with Bishop Realty for many years, then retired from Realty One. Bill been a member of the Valley City Chamber of Commerce, Medina Co. Farm Bureau, Medina Co. Soil & Conservation. He is survived by his children- Patty Dvorak, Robert (Becky) Schwinn and William M. (Diana L.) Schwinn all of New London, Gayle (George) Berthold of Ravenna and Skip (Lynn) Dommin of New York, grandchildren-Shadrach Dvorak, Sarah Ruprecht, Abraham Dvorak, Delilah Good, Hannah White, Polly Wolf, David Dvorak, Emma Cramer, Jacob Schwinn, Leah Schwinn, Willie Schwinn, Jessica Marcum, Brandon Schwinn, Alice Jarvi, Dani Neumann, Brett Berthold, Kimberly Turnbull, Justin Berthold, Shane Dommin and Tiffany Dommin, and 38 great grandchildren. Also surviving are Bill’s brother Murrow Schwinn of Dothan, AL., sister-in-law Jane Dowell and brother-in-law John (Tassa) Dowdell. In addition to his wives, Bill was preceded in death by his sons- Lester and David Schwinn, daughter-in-law Karen Schwinn, son-in-law Dennis Dvorak, sister Clara Watford and brothers- Rowe, Roy, George and Luther Schwinn. Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Bauer Funeral Home 2089 Columbia Road Valley City, OH, followed immediately by a memorial service at the funeral home. Following the service Bill will be laid to rest by his wife Rose at St. Martin of Tours Cemetery, Valley City, OH.
