Jean was born in Uphall, Scotland on July 18, 1927 to Mary and William Shields. She came to the United States when she was two years old. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and attended a Scottish Lodge in Cleveland with her mother for years. Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was the family caregiver for everyone who suffered an illness. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Our mother was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Growing up, Mom was always there for us, she was the first person you called with good news or a problem. She was a comforter, a confident, and a great source of joy. She was a woman of strong faith and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. Our mother was a true role model. She loved playing cards, traveling with family. She was as sharp as a tack until the very end of her life. She enjoyed music, singing and collecting Annalee dolls.
The funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Friday, March 1 at 9:30 a.m. with visitation 8:30 am to 9:30 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church 2233 Abbeyville Road Valley City, Ohio 44280 or Hospice of Medina County /HWR 5075 Windfall Road Medina, Ohio 44256.
