Clarence R. Johnson

February 1, 1924 - June 19, 2017

Clarence R. Johnson 93, of Brunswick passed away peacefully at his home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 19, 2017, surrounded by his loving daughters. Clarence was born in Sweetwater, Tennessee, on February 1, 1924 to the late Fred and Elizabeth (Nee Hensley) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the Destroyer USS Luce and was a Purple Heart recipient. When his ship was attacked and sank while enroute to Japan, he survived for 3 days and nights floating in the ocean before being rescued by another Navy ship. He would often tease the kids in our family that if the sharks would have been hungry those 3 days----then none of them would have been born—than he would laugh. Clarence was always called a “good man” by those he met along the way and to his family his was a very respected and loved head of the Johnson family which numbers---“3” daughters, “10” grandchildren, “20” great grandchildren and “5” great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was involved in their lives and passed down to them what it means to keep your word and to be honest and respectable to those you love and are responsible for. He always made sure his family was loved and watched over. He was truly a “good man”, a “Loving Husband for 68 years to our Mother” and a “devoted and involved Father to his “3 daughters”. All of our hearts are broken and he truly will be missed by the many who love him. He is survived by his daughters Patricia Noga and Wanda Vasil and brother- John Johnson. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife Iva Ruth and his daughter- Peggy Lee Ransom, brother Howard and Sister Delia Rose. Visitation will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Westwood Abbey at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road North Olmsted, OH 44070, with the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Full Military Honors will be provided at the close the service. The Bauer Funeral Home, Valley City has the honor or serving the Johnson Family.
